Doctor Who?

I HATE the new Doctor!

This evening I managed with my pirating skills to watch the Christmas special of Doctor Who, debuting the new Doctor played by David Tenant. He replaces Christopher Ecclestone, who won a BAFTA for his role as the last remaining timeLord. After watching the special, I'm not enamoured by the new Dr.!

It's not that he's horrible, he's just not in the same league as Ecclestone. It would be like having a healthy diet of Coke, and then being forced to drink Vanilla Coke - simply not right! Yes I know I should be happy the show is still on but darn it, I need some good TV these days! Too bad 24 doesn't start till January 15th, I JUST finished season 4 (Jack Bauer is off the chain!). If any of you ever have some spare time, I totally recommend watching season one of Doctor Who, it's not at all as nerdy as you might think. Well it is just a BIT, but nothing like the old 80s show with the dude who had a technicolour jacket!

The Daily Lecture

Hey yaars,

Just got through one hell of a day! The past few weeks I've been having unusual sleeping patterns, hence after only an hour of sleep, at 9:50 AM my brother woke me up so I could drive him to work. Normally I might grunt and tell him to take the bus, but being the smart bastard he is, he intentionally waited till 9:50 because he knew it would be too late to catch a bus and make it on time - subtly forcing me to drive. While getting ready, I discover that my mother (on her week off) wants me to drop her off at her friend's, in MARKHAM!

So awakening from my slumber, I drop them both off, and come home having spent more time driving than I had sleeping. Upon coming home, I drop dead into bed and hibernate for as long as I can. But of course my panic-striken mother decides to call home every 2 hours! And me being the lazy oaf that I am, decide to ignore the calls. Finally after about the 10th call, I wake up, and leave to pick up my brother. Upon reaching home, I find she has called AGAIN, asking when we're to come over. My brother says we'll be there in about an hour. BIG mistake!

I chilled a bit before leaving, basically leaving about 90 minutes later. While in the car my mom phones about 5 times, yet since I'm driving I didn't respond. I figured since we were on the way, we'd see her in a few minutes. Upon reaching Markham, I find her outside the friend's home, with the friend's husband in the pouring rain waitng for me! Because of her I got a dual-lecture from her AND the uncle asking why I didn't pick up! I seriously think I should stop carrying a cellular phone!

Luckily the friends whose home we visited are very good friends, and managed to side-step the subject after a few minutes - chalking it all up to a generation gap (apparently I'm too CANADIAN now :P ). And of course that led to wedding talk, with everyone in the room CONVINCED that I was good-looking enough to find a Pakistani wife without having even found a job yet. I'm sure it was a tad sarcastic, but all that ego stroking has got me feeling really good about myself! Thank goodness for my light skinned lineage! And if there are any Canadian hotties who want to shout me a holla, I'm all for it as I could use the experience (though I might piss myself in the process).

Ah my life, where there's ALWAYS something humorous occuring!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey yaars!

I just noticed that I haven't managed to write in a bit and figured I'd amuse you all! The past few days have been good, having gone to different family friends' homes for Christmas, Boxing Day, today, and last Friday. Nothing spectacular to report from their end, just a fairly good time with a decent meal and some jokes.

I FINALLY managed to whup my brother at Madden today. I beat him 36-13 as the Steelers (over the Bengals) and he was semi-pissed. I'm admittedly afraid his knack for vengeance will lead to a drubbing tomorrow! I have to say though, the win edged me towards the Steeler's camp. I already like their team, like seeing Coach Cowher go bananas, and think it would be a great way to chat up our good friend G-Unit!

Just read that we got Troy Glaus (officially). It's too bad we had to see Orlando Hudson go, but at the same time it was a move you had to make. A 3 time all-star in exchange for a 1-time gold glover and expendable pitcher is a deal you have to make if you want to contend for a playoff spot. Though I'll miss his crazy plays (and crazy voice), I think the Jays are better after this deal. Now if only they could find a way to get rid of this corner infielder back-log!

My hero of the moment? Che Guevara. No, it's not because of Rage Against the Machine. A few days ago whilst bored I read about him on Wikipedia and love his story. I knew a bit about his socialist roots and guerilla warfare tactics, but have total respect for the guy and admire his principles. I SO need one of those t-shirts! (Quick note for reference, the iconic T-shirt print is actually a modification of a photograph of Che at a funeral - his "visionary" eyes looking skyward is a case of artistic interpretation). Oh, and btw, Che means "friend" in Spanish. It was his nickname as he used the term quite often while conversing with others (kind of like me using yaar - Yaar Rathore?).

Anyhow, have to get some rest so I can get up at a semi-decent hour to drop my brother @ work, and my mother @ her best friend's place! I'm free for the next few days so if anybody has anything in mind, shout me a holla!

Talk to you l8er!

Music Video of the Year!

Hey yaars,

Just saw the most wicked video ever! If you're a fan of Korn (yes, they're still alive) OR a fan of hip hop, you have to check this out! Crikey, the actual mention of korn is making me reminisce about 1999 all over again! Anyhow, here's the link to check out the video!

My Maiden Century...

Hey yaars,

No, this entry's title has no deep, thought-provoking meaning to it. It's simply a phrase used by cricket commentators (of the SPORT, not the insect!). I just hit my 100th post and am somewhat proud of myself. To celebrate, I've just poured myself a nice large glass of Coca-Cola (sorry, no Pepsi in our home's stock-room), and am savouring the taste just like that cartoon polar bear in the commercials!

Due to my intermittent periods of posting, I thought I'd throw out a few tid-bits that I think might interest/amuse a few of y'all:

- My mother's cousin is a well-known TV personality in Pakistan. I discovered this while watching some Pakistani satellite TV, hearing my mom shout "That's Rauf! I've finally seen him on TV!". Apparently, before she was married, she would go ride on the back of his motorcycle and go out with him all the time way back in Pakistan. And here I am, usually PETRIFIED when speaking to the opposite sex. What hypocritical parents!

- Saw Wedding Crashers and am just beginning to truly appreciate the comedic genius that is Vince Vaughn. I watched Swingers a few weeks back and only hope that Dodgeball is on the same level :P

- Apparently my brother may have had a girlfriend this year who he is know separated from (according to his blog posts I honoroubly snoop on!). The nimrod actually compares his situation to that of Clark Kent and Lana Lang from Smallville! If I didn't have to conceal that I'm reading his blog, I would have SOOO bitch-slapped him!

- I am SOOOO money and I don't even know it

- For some reason, the past week I've been falling asleep around 6 am, and waking up at 3 pm. I know this is very unhealthy, but it's just too hard to resist. My stupid circadian rhythms are all-messed up like Kramer!

- Currently I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde. I love his oxymoronic, yet truthful view on all topics, and have learned to appreciate the depth involved in being vain! Plus, quoting Wilde almost always makes you look intelligent in front of others

- Moment of the Week -
Sitting at Tim Horton's, enjoying my raspberry chocalate cheesecake whilst chilling with my family. Because my mom is there, I choose to speak in Urdu with everyone. Though she is very fluent in English, from childhood I've been encouraged to speak Urdu to "maintian my roots". The SECOND my mouth spews an Urdu word, the whole table next to us stares at me as if I'm an alien. They had NO idea we were Pakistani, telling us they had never seen Pakistani's so fair skinned. It was quite possibly the ONE time I couldn't use the "because I'm brown excuse".

Hello Neighbours!

Hey yaars,

Guess what I found this morning upon starting up my computer? My neighbours headlining the news for they're apparent al-Qaeda links! Don't believe me? Check this link out...

You think it might just be a one-off article eh? Then check out this search off of Google news.

Am I scared? F*** no! If anything this makes living in Scarborough extraordinarily secure. I'm positive CSIS is all over the area making sure nothing crazy happens. In fact, they just might be reading this blog entry! Plus, I don't find the dude too intimidating, if anything he's a bit of a d*ck. On more than one occasion he's managed to "piggy-back" his car into our garage.

Piggy-back parking : Obtaining free indoor garage parking by waiting for a paying indoor garage parker (i.e. ME!) to come home, and use his key to open the garage door. Once open, the cheater will rev his sh*tbox and find an empty spot in the basement garage to park.

Funnily enough, my mother has actually talked to the mother of their family as well. In our buildings' laundry room, they discussed being a "proper" Muslim, with my mother having NO idea who she was, and going on and on about secular Islam. I'm sure y'all can imagine my reaction!

Talk to y'all l8er

PAK-ing a Punch!

Hey yaars!

Just found out that Pakistan swept aside England to win the One Day Series 3-1. Coupled with the victory in the Test (5-Day match) series, this team certainly looks promising heading into next months huge series against the arch-rival Indians. I'm SO looking forward to it!

Yes, I do realize that in all likelihood most people I know who are reading this neither know nor care enough about cricket to understand my elation, but believe me I'm happy. After two years of seeing my Indian colleagues, co-workers, friends totally laugh at Pakistan's demise from World beaters to semi-pros, I love being able to have that swagger, looking forwards to cricket once again! Now if only there was a way Canadian TV could pick up some cricket live!

Pu**y on the Pedestal!

I managed to finally get a chance to watch the 40 Year Old Virgin at home after months of friends recommending it to me. I tried best not to overhype the film in my mind in an honest attempt to try and enjoy it, and I was pleasantly surprised!

The film ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be, mixing a fine blend of slapstick, wit, and heart-warming sympathy which makes it a definite comedy classic in my books.

I totally related to the main character's reluctance to inter-mingle with the ladies. I often have very similar inhibitions when it comes to inter-communique with the opposite sex. My ultimate fear is that I'll get slapped for whatever reason and will feel horrible.

I just might have to heed the advice of "J" in the film by not putting the "p***y on a pedestal". As crude as it may sound, I think it truly applies to myself, though maybe not in such a rude way. I can promise y'all one thing though, I will NOT allow myself to have that "status" at the age of 40 years. That's where arranged marriages can actually SAVE nervous, bumbling, gullible and naive fools like me from a lifetime of action figure collecting! No, I don't collect action figures, but I do like the McFarlane sports figures. I've got about 10-12, and they look SO sweet! Umm, maybe I should get out to cluuubs more often...

Stay tuned guys and dolls for more nVd news tomorrow...

(what do you guys think of the nVd moniker? I ripped it from the new Reebok rBk campaing. Cheesy, silly, or stupid?)

All Charged Up!

Hey yaars!

I've finally had enough R&R that I think I should begin posting on a semi-regular basis once again. Today I managed to drop a few bucks on Pro-Line (winning nothing once again!), and saw an amazing Colts/Chargers game where the Colts 13 game winning streak finally ended. My brother was ecstatic, as his '72 Dolphins are still the only perfectly undefeated team (never mind the fact that the season in question was 16 years before he was even born!). I got a kick out of seeing them lose, especially when you saw the look on their faces. They looked like they had just gotten eliminated from the playoffs! It's ONE game! You're still the best team in football. Chalk it up to experience, rest up, and go for glory starting next week!

This evening I caught the Falcons/Bears game with a Pro Line Props ticket on the line. A props ticket is basically where you choose the over/under on things such as Number of Interceptions, Number of Sacks, Longest Field Goal, Warrick Dunn's rushing yardage, etc. I managed to get within 2 sacks of winning my bet, and lost. Though I'm slightly dissappointed, I saw one HELL of a Bears defence absolutely WHUP the Falcons with their thunderous defensive display. I've never seen a team hit like that and thoroughly enjoyed it. They just might be that sleeper team I pick to root for come playoff time!

While You Were Sleeping...

Hey yaars!

Yes, I know, I've neglected you all over the last 10 days. A potent mix of exams, anxiety, hard work, studying, and family pressures prevented me from giving my blog the full attention it deserves. I will DEFINITELY start my normal routine tomorrow, when my last exam is over (hallelujah!).

Right now I'm just watching the Falcons kill the clock and my ProPicks ticket as Warrick Dunn fell 25 yards short of what I needed to win. Yeah it was only $25 to win, but it would have been nice!

Have been studying like crazy the last few days, EVEN going to the library a handful of times in the morning and coming home in the early evening. I can't believe I'm being an academic!

Anyhow, my exam awaits me, talk to y'all soon!

The Judge, the Jury, and the Executioner...

Hey yaars!

Just got through an afternoon session of studying. Slowly but surely I'm getting some confidence for Mondays exam, though I'm sure it will be obliterated come Sunday night! I'm HOPING to be done my first review by Saturday afternoon-ish. We shall see!

Have you ever heard a song and for years never know who it was by, always wanting to hear it again? Well a few years back I watched an episode of the now defunct Fastlane and heard the coolest song. Only now do I find out it's by the Asian Dub Foundation. And being the nice guy that I am, here's the song to download!

Asian Dub Foundation - La Haine

(note - scroll down and click on the "free" button and wait about 30 seconds for the link to appear. Rapidshare sux I know, but it works!)

Talk to you l8er guys!
