Sacre Bleu!

Hey guys and gals,
I'm sure many of you have heard the expression about a butterfly fluttering it's wings, leading to a tidal wave on the other side of the world. I'm afraid my one day of getting up at a reasonable hour with a full night's sleep has triggered an enormous reaction which appears set to tear our country apart!
By now it's out EVERYWHERE that Prime Minister Harper proposed recognizing Quebec as unique nation within Canada, opening up the sovereignity talk we all loathe. No country in the world would allow a segment of the population to vote for its own independence, yet we let it happen twice! What raised my ire even moreso was the fact that the Liberals support this legislation! My feelings are similar to Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis, who mentioned on Friday that Canada also has a Greek nation, Tamil nation, Italian nation. Canada is a mosiac of nations, yet still flying under one banner.
Canada is all about compromise and understanding, but where do we draw the line? I hate to say it but these separatists have been hijacking Canadian politics for decades now. If Quebec had been persecuted, unacknowledged, our lived under tyranny, I would have some sympathy for their plight. Unfortunately, I have nothing but vitriol when speaking of our eastern neighbours.
The federal government has bent over backwards to accomodate them, with bilingualism, two referendums, and the prevalance of the Bloc Quebecois (what is the point of having a party in federal parliament that has only self-serving interests for its own province? At least the Conservatives try to make it look like they're for the whole country :P ). Let's not also forget all the subsidies and transfer payments the feds send over. This is like a white elephant being asked to be painted with a fresh vanilla coat.
By acknowledging their 'unique nation', it seems as if our government has put up the white flag on defending federalism, which saddens me. What hurts even more is that it seems as if this is a ploy to win Conervative votes in Quebec, in order to disect whatever Liberal support exists in La Belle Province. If this is true, shame on you Mr. Harper!
The whole idea of a country, nation, soverign state, or whatever you want to call it, is entrenched with unity. Of course there is give and take, with larger provinces taking on a larger load of the work to help their provincial brothers/sisters. Bickering over partitions to me is akin to bickering amongst siblings. It should be handled swiftly and fairly. Which does NOT meen acquiesing to the demands of one faction. Fuck, what's next, Alberta wants to be independant? :P
If all this rubbish does happen in the next few years, I want to be an MP for the United States of Toronto.

The only reason they are doing this is to make it acceptable to later do the same to Alberta. If anyone deserves to be recognized as a nation and taken seriously it is the Native population. At least those french buggers got to fight a war and we respected the treaties and laws made around it. More than the people who first lived on this land ever got and probably ever will.
