A Weekend in the City
Yeah, I'm up again at a decent hour. And since this is still somewhat different for me, I thought I'd kill some time rambling hither and tither. Especially since the bloody tenants upstairs have decided to move their heavy shit, since 5 in the morning!I've been getting very little sleep the last week or so because of these losers upstairs. I don't know what sort of heavy furniture they have in the room above mine, but every hour or so you hear boxes shifting, weights being dropped, and from what I can tell, mattress springs moving. I've woken up a few times with the instinctive fear that the ceiling was going to cave in with some 500 lb. mattress/person combo ready to kill me, and this is coming from an usually sound sleeper. My moms just figured it out today as she was awoken by their oh so pleasant sounds.
After putting it off for about two years, I bit the bullet and splurged on a new computer. My old Pentium 3 has been toiling in limbo for a while now, but as it gets me by, it was hard to let it go. It reminds me of my dad and his first car, a 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. We got rid of it in '91, and much like the Olds, my computer still has it's moments. It seems right after I placed my order on Dell, it started working at a quicker pace (relatively speaking). No worries though, I fully plan on donating it to Zan (whether he likes it or not), as it still is useful enough to not be disposed of.
For all techincally inclined, here are the specs on the new comp I'm eagerly waiting for:
-Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz processor
I held out for this processor as it has 4 MB of L2 Cache, making it signifigantly better than the - 2MB Cache in the 2.1 Ghz version
- 2 GB of DDR Ram
- 250 GB Hard Drive
I wanted to go big, but since I live seconds away from Kennedy Road, I figure in a year's time, I'll be able to get a HD with double the size for about $10.
-256 MB nVidia GeForce Video Card
I don't plan on hard core Everquest gaming, so it suits my needs.
- 20" Widescreen LCD monitor
After what I've had to endure with the constant "picture squishing" my current 17" monitor is doing, I'm looking forward to taking this step up
I do plan on loading it up with goodies soon enough, at the moment I'm just hoping it comes as advertised from Dell and everything goes off without a hitch. And for God's sake, my system better not be made by the pot-smoking dude who was in their adverts!
At the moment I'm almost done listening to a leaked version of Bloc Party's new album, A Weekend in the City. On first listen, there aren't any standout tracks, it's just a solid album. Not as amazing as Silent Alarm (and it's remixes), but good enough to garner a second listen. Who knows, maybe I'll figure out which song will inevitably feature in the next Saturn commercial!
