Admittedly, I can at times be a tad melodramatic. Today though, I can safely say that this week for me has officially sucked.
This week I managed to : - be insulted professionally (again!) - have my hours halved - be expected to be couped up like a bird and watched (again!) - "not be trusted" - be bailed on for lunch by colleagues who were insistent on buying me a meal - once again been turned down for a posting I very much had aspirations for
So yeah, not such a great week so far. Hopefully Friday rectifies things!
After a few foul-mouth tirades after work, I've tried my best to simmer down and collect myself for tomorrow. It wasn't easy, but I feel better to control myself in order to present myself appropriately.
Let it be known though, yours truly isn't exactly rosy at the moment, and I'm taking steps to hopefully rectify matters!
I may be wrong, but I believe I've just had one of those epiphany moments, one where a very difficult decision was made a hell of a lot easier. I'm just waiting for things to set off...
There's potential for some very interesting news. Keep posted...
Finally, the weekend is here! If only my office was as kick-ass as the one in the video!
Today was a bit of tedious, grinding work to finish off the week. And if it didn't get any better, I was subtly accused of being lazy, once again. At this point.I honestly think that even if I did the work of FIVE people, I'd still be told that I wasn't efficient enough!
The reason for my mini-ire is due to my superior asking me to work the next few days at vacant desks of others. I think it's safe to say I'm going to be watched like a hawk, again! Not that I have anything to hide, I just don't like having the feeling of a noose being around your neck all day! Oh, and it involves a lot of envelope/package stuffing, which is NEVER fun.
Anyhow, on to more positive topics...
- If I hadn't mentioned it already, my iPod earbuds are on death's door. The left bud is now playing at a lower volume than the right, and the right earbud needs the occassional blow to avoid crackles in sound. I finally gave in and ordered some of the new 2nd generation earbuds off ebay and am hoping they last. I've already gone through two pairs of earbuds within the span of 18 months and you would think that for a music player that costs $400, there would be some quality in the earbuds!
- the English Premier League begins tomorrow! The FA has finally decided to be less ambiguous in their top flight's official name. I've heard it been called the Premiership, Premier League, First division, EPL, and the real League 1. I'm glad they've decided on a name and am raring to watch some footy action! Unfortunately it's becoming a bit expensive now!
Setanta sports is a new digital specialty channel that holds the rights to most Premier League matches, killing what use to be awesome Saturday afternoons for me. I don't have enough cake to support paying $15/month to enjoy the likes of Wigan/Reading, so I'm just going to have to settle for the one Saturday game. I just might pony up to get THE SCORE again just so I can watch a few more games. Or I could always turn to the internet... (*Naveed looking around sneakily*).
The game on tap tomorrow is Manchester City/West Ham, and it'll be interesting to see the new look Hammers. While I've always liked Freddie Ljunberg (for his play, not his CK underwear ads), it's only a matter of time before hell breaks loose...
Why you ask? The team has FOUR players formerly of Newcastle United : England's equivalent of the Oakland Raiders. And let's not forget the fisticuffs two of them (Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer) got into on the pitch as TEAMMATES! If you haven't seen it, check this out...
Well, Happy Premier League New Year, and have a great weekend everyone!
Who would have known that our Jays would grow a set and finally decide to take matters into their own hands, or A-Rod's leg to be precise.
It was great to see a Jays team show some gumption, unfortunately, I believe it was a case of too little, too late. Had they done this a few weeks back at Yankee Stadium in front of the NY faithful, I would have been impressed. To wait months to retaliate is just plain vindictive in my books. Mind you I'm not complaining, as it made for one hell of an atmosphere at the Rogers Centre on Tuesday. Too bad we proceeded to get hammered that evening. And in true Jays fashion, the next night managed to score enough runs in one night (15) to last a homestand.
On the home front, I've just been informed by my mom that I'm to be engaged by the time I'm 27 - leaving me approximately 12-20 months of bachelor-dom. Crazy I know, but who am I to break a tradition lasting centuries? I'm actually not predisposed to being against the idea, as I actually see the benefits of the situation. Plus, I still think it's a hell of a lot more convenient than doing the whole dating thing :P
Before my post begins to be a ramble-fest, here are the notes for the more occupied folk who frequent the blog:
- Me, married at 27/28 - Yikes!
- Barack Obama putting his foot in his mouth by declaring that he would have no hesitation barging into Pakistan if he had sufficient evidence to prove that Osama bin Laden was in hiding there. What ever happened to diplomacy? While I agree terrorists should be put to justice, the autonomy of independent states must be recognized. Invading an allied country (albeit loosely) does nothing but perpetuate the stereotype of the U.S. being an imperialistic, bullying faction hell-bent on imposing their way amongst the world. And isn't that exactly what the war on terror is suppose to be preventing?
- My iPod earbuds are on their last legs. While the right earbud is shaky but stable, the left bud is now playing at a lower volume than the right. It's taken a lot of work for them to sound decent, and I'm eagerly awaiting my new set of 2nd generation earbuds I've just ordered. Why can't Apple just hook us up with some nice Sennheiser's!
- I know I'm about 16 months behind on marvels of cell phone technology, but I love the Razr. It's so much more useful than the clunky Sony Ericsson that was always causing me problems in the past. And it's only fitting that I'm not a Virgin Mobile customer :P
- Went online and found high quality rips of the first (and only) season of Fastlane. For those of you who know me post 2002, that was my absolute favourite show at the time and after watching them again, I still feel indignant at the fact that they could cancel such an exciting show and find ways to keep rubbish shows on (in order to avoid p*ssing people off, shows will remain nameless)
- Tell-tale sign of being too frugal and parsimonious : keeping track of lunches you've bought for friends, TWO YEARS AGO! (You know who you are!) :P
- Worst moment of the last week : discovering the truth about a certain co-worker's escapades. It was like finding out Mickey Mantle corked his bat. Say it ain't so!
That's it for now, with a quick plea of advice from my gallery of readers. I want to take my brother to the States next month for his birthday. I know he's hesitant as he knows my mom would get all nervous, but I think it would be a good chance for us to be free of the shackles of home for a few days and enjoy some baseball. Admittedly I'm pushing to go to Chicago to see the Cubs (I promised myself a trip to Wrigley once a year), but am not sure what would convince him. Any pearls of wisdome anyone?
